Terms and Conditions

1. Introduction

These Terms and Conditions (“Terms”) apply to all training courses offered by the Industrial Automation Training Centre (IATC), which is managed by the School of Electrical, Electronic and Computer Engineering within the Faculty of Engineering at the North-West University (NWU), Potchefstroom Campus, South Africa. By enrolling in any of our training programmes, participants agree to be bound by these Terms. The IATC reserves the right to amend these Terms at any time without prior notice. The most current version available on the IATC website will apply.

2. Registration and Payment

Participants must contact the IATC directly to enroll in a course. Course fees displayed on the website are exclusive of Value-Added Tax (VAT). All payments must be made in accordance with the official payment terms and financial policies of North-West University.

3. Cancellation and Refund Policy

Cancellations made more than four (4) weeks prior to the course start date will be eligible for a full refund, less a 15% administrative fee. Cancellations received one (1) week before the course commencement will be refunded at 50% of the course fee. No refunds will be issued for cancellations made less than one (1) week before the course start date. At the sole discretion of the IATC, participants may be permitted to transfer their enrolment to a future course date, subject to availability. The IATC reserves the right to cancel or postpone a course with a minimum of two (2) weeks’ notice to enrolled participants. In such cases, participants may opt for a full refund or reschedule to a future course date.

4. Course Delivery and Attendance

All courses are delivered in person at the NWU Potchefstroom Campus. Participants are required to attend at least ninety percent (90%) of the scheduled sessions to qualify for certification. Upon successful completion of the training, participants will receive a Siemens Certificate of Attendance. Additionally, a North-West University Certificate of Competence will be awarded to participants who successfully complete the assessment test administered on the final day of the course. Replacement certificates can be issued upon request at an additional fee.

5. Prerequisites and Participant Responsibility

Each course offered by the IATC may have specific entry requirements or prerequisites. It is the responsibility of each participant to ensure they meet the prerequisites prior to enrolling in a course. Failure to meet these requirements may impact the participant’s ability to complete the course successfully.

6. Training Materials and Copyright

All training materials provided during the course are protected by copyright and remain the intellectual property of the IATC, NWU, and relevant third parties. These materials are intended solely for personal use by the participant and may not be copied, reproduced, modified, or distributed in any format without prior written consent.

7. Code of Conduct

Participants are expected to conduct themselves in a professional and respectful manner at all times, in line with NWU policies and guidelines. Disruptive, inappropriate, or unethical behaviour may result in removal from the course without any entitlement to a refund. In cases where damage to equipment or facilities is caused through negligence or misuse, the participant may be held financially responsible for the repairs or replacement costs.

8. Liability Disclaimer

While every effort is made to ensure the quality and safety of training, the IATC and NWU shall not be held liable for any personal injury, loss, damage, or inconvenience experienced during course participation. Furthermore, the IATC disclaims responsibility for any inaccuracies in training content or for any decisions made by participants based on the material presented. The course fee does not include any additional costs such as travel, accommodation, meals, or personal expenses, which are the sole responsibility of the participant.

9. Photography and Media

The IATC may take photographs and videos during training sessions for promotional and marketing purposes. By enrolling in a course, participants grant the IATC permission to use such media that may include their image or likeness. Participants who wish to opt out of this must inform the IATC in writing before the course begins.

10. Privacy Policy

The IATC respects the privacy of all participants. Personal information collected during registration, including but not limited to names, contact information, and qualifications, will be handled in compliance with South African data protection legislation and NWU’s internal privacy policies. This information will be used strictly for administrative, academic, and communication purposes related to training and certification.

11. Jurisdiction

These Terms and any disputes arising from course participation shall be governed by the laws of the Republic of South Africa and the internal regulations of the North-West University.
